JANUARY 15, 2018 will mark the first night of rehearsals for the Spring season! We are very excited about our program! Diane has picked out some great music – some familiar to us, and some new, and the unofficial title of the concert is “A Musical Feast!” We meet every Monday from 7-9 p.m. (please try to arrive between 6:45 and 7). Our rehearsal space is St. James Episcopal Church, located on West Street, but entering from the parking lot behind the church on Gilbo Ave. (Between Lindy’s Diner and Syd’s Carpet)
Dues for the semester are $45 and payable within the first two weeks. We offer discounted dues of $25 per semester for current college students. If you would like to make payment arrangements, please contact our Board President, Pam, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Any inquiries will be held in strictest confidence.
In the event of inclement weather, rehearsal cancellations will be announced by email, on our Facebook page, and on local radio stations.
We do not require an audition for anyone to participate, but we do ask for your commitment to miss no more than four rehearsals per concert season. If you have previously made travel plans or have other obligations that will require you to miss more than four rehearsals, we ask you to please let us know in advance. Decisions on participation for those individuals will be made at the discretion of the director.
A messy morning snowfall did not dampen the festive mood as approximately 20 members of the Pops gathered at Walier Chevrolet in Keene for its annual toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots. Dan Mitchell hosted the live broadcast on WKBK, interviewing Wally Reney from Toys for Tots, Joe Walier, and our own Meg Kupiec, who organized our participation this year. Known for re-writing lyrics to classic songs for special occasions, Meg outdid herself this year with an upbeat jingle to the tune of “Here We Come A Caroling.” The song was a hit with everyone, but none more than Joe Walier himself!
Despite the frightful weather, many locals stopped in to deliver a new toy, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate, and listen as the Pops sang carols over the span of an hour on the air. Several in attendance noted that this year’s toy collection seemed bigger than ever, and in particular the shiny new bicycles sitting among the haul were a sight to behold. Oh, what fun to know how many kids would wake up Christmas morning to those new bikes! Many thanks to Walier’s for inviting us to be a part of this wonderful community event!
The Pops would like to express our thanks to all of the local businesses that supported us by advertising in our beautiful Holiday 2017 concert program. Their support helps offset costs associated with our concerts, including purchasing new music, printing the program, advertising and many other expenses. If you have an opportunity, please consider patronizing the following businesses:
If you know of a business that would like to be included in our next concert program, please let us know so we can reach out to them. Thank you for your support!
The Pops will ring (and swing) in another season with a concert of popular holiday music on Sunday December 2 at 3:00 p.m. at The Colonial Theater on Main Street in Keene. Selections will include classic favorites such as “Winter Wonderland and a Swingin’ arrangement of “Jingle Bells,” and new hits including “Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?” from the animated film Frozen, and a showstopping “Mary, Did You Know?” as recorded by the wildly popular group Pentatonix. The Pops always has a few surprises up their collective sleeve and promises to entertain and help you find your holiday spirit! Tickets are available now from Pops members as well as the Colonial Box Office at a discounted price of $12. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the concert for $15. We hope to see you there!
If you think the Pops might be for you, please email us at email@example.com to find out more about how to become a member. We would LOVE to have you join us!
Just for fun, choir member Sue Durling recently recorded a time lapse video of rehearsal and posted to our Facebook page.
